band crush: blouse

It’s kind of an achievement when I find a good band myself without clicking suggested artists on Spotify as sad as that sounds. The self titled debut is just a hazy. Picture a Polaroid photo as soon as it comes out of the camera, you know that dreamy hazy shot? That’s what the record sounds like.  It seems to just capture my imagination perfectly with those murmuring vocals [Charlie Hilton] and chilly synths. I kind of think of Warpaint when I listen to them... have a listen to the song below and you’ll see what I mean.
The lo-fi band come from Portland and was originally inspired to name their band Blouse because of a sign in a dry cleaners window and, for them, it suited them perfectly.
I think it’s clear they are inspired by 1980s pop and aim to recreate that essence in each track.

Have a listen to my favourite track off the album. Hope you enjoy it X

bonjour bombay

Chanel took over the Grand Palais in Paris this week to showcase their Pre Fall 2012 collection Chanel Paris- Bombay. It completely captured the enchanting feeling of Indian glamour: gold and silver plates toppled with plenty of fruit, a circle runway,  white candles and bouquets placed elegantly on the tables, sari-inspired gowns that would drape to the floor of these models with their kohl black eyes.  Peter Phillips, creative director of make up at Chanel stated that he was going for a mysterious look yet keeping it modern and edgy.

The most talked about beautification was the new nail vanish Diwali which will be out this summer!

The collection features lavish fabrics flooded with jewels, metallics and shimmering embellishments that pay respect to the Indian culture; however, a modern twist is noticeable on these beautiful pieces. The collection features a variety of colours, neon colours and plenty of monochrome which we all know Lagerfeld to love.

Favourites!

festivities

The past two days have been very christmassy indeed! On Tuesday I watched Elf and Love Actually with the flat mates and ate fatty food (yum) and yesterday I went to Winter Wonderland and browsed around Harrods with my friend Sophie.

Really excited for Christmas now.

british fashion awards

The British Fashion Awards took place in Savoy in London last night and from the pictures and tweets I’ve seen and read today it looked like a glamorous and pleasant event for all that attended.

Victoria Beckham won Designer Brand of the Year. Personally, I didn’t think that would happen when up against Burberry, Tom Ford and the amazing Stella McCartney but she did it and it seemed that she (like me) didn’t expect it either when she accepted her award with a bucket of tears. Looks like she is a force to be reckoned with and has definitely shaken off that ‘WAG’ tag.

She looked perfect in all black.

The award for Designer of the Year went to Sarah Burton, the creative director at House of McQueen. Of course we all knew that would happen; especially after being the genius of a mind behind Kate Middleton’s wedding dress earlier on this year. When accepting her award off Samantha Cameron she told the audience that “this feels like the icing on the cake on a really amazing year”.

Here are some of my favourite designs by Sarah...

The wonderful Alexa Chung was crowned Style Icon of the Year. Again, I’m sure you all saw that coming right? After all Chung is constantly on Best Dress lists! It really is no surprise she won it for a second year running. Constantly wearing the best labels and being somewhat of a ‘muse’ for designers I’m really happy she won again! It has been her year especially with the new line for A/W Madewell.

MADE UP Mary Katrantzou won Emerging Talent of the Year. If having a runway made solely of tulips doesn’t win you that I don’t know what will! So excited for her collection with Topshop next year.

Chloé S/S '12

I was really happy when I found out yesterday that Freja Beha Erichsen and her said to be girlfriend Arizona Muse are the faces of the new Chloe campaign for Spring/Summer 2012.
Those of you that know me well know that I’ve been obsessed with Freja Beha for awhile now. In my bedroom back home her face is plastered all over my wall; from her Latino Lover Chanel campaign to her being on the cover for Vogue’s September issue. She is definitely in my top 5 girl crushes.

The two models were snapped wearing beautiful brown and green pleated dresses from the Chloe S/S 2012 collection.

Also, Yesterday Chloe announced a new fragrance created by Michel Almairac. ‘L’Eau de Chloé’ will launch in March next year. Just in time for my birthday!

MARRY THE NIGHT: THE PRELUDE PATHÉTIQUE

I'm so excited for the full prelude and the official music video; the word on twitter is it's going to be her longest one to date...
I could listen to Gaga talk sweet nothings in my ear all day. She has a beautiful voice.

I always laugh when she says 'bam' about the nurses ass. Utter babe.

dancing on tiptoes to ceremonials

I was really happy when I found a copy of Ceremonials in the post room a couple of days ago. My mum sent me it and wrote a letter alongside it: ‘Music to work to x’. It’s all I’ve been listening to and surprisingly I’m still not bored of it!
Florence + The Machine are a huge act selling millions of copies worldwide and selling out every show; however, she still captures the feeling that Ceremonials was produced in her tiny little bedroom with harps, pianos and double basses dissipated all over the place with her voice twirling through. The album fits in well with the current season - it’s dark and mysterious from the lyrics to the album cover itself. Although Ceremonials is the second album by Florence, it still follows the same magical road as Lungs yet we can say it is a progression. Welch spoke out when asked about taking a new direction and said ‘No, no, no I can’t suddenly just leave Lungs behind’ and I’m happy she didn’t. The new album encapsulates both anger and beauty. From the first song ‘Only If for a Night’ we are plunged into the psyche of Florence Welch, travelling through, experiencing her feelings and deep emotions. Each track is produced with the image in mind of Catherine wailing on the Yorkshire Moors with a mournful choir wailing alongside her. (I can’t help but relate Florence to Kate Bush)
All her songs appear to be short stories with a dream-like narrative. She refers to authors and poets in her songs; ‘What The Water Gave Me’ has references to Virginia Woolf (I’ve just recently read a short story by her too.)
‘Shake It Out’, the first single off the album,  completely makes a stand and as silly as it sounds makes me feel happy. It says ‘I’m back and I’m better than before’.
My favourite track (after Strangeness and Charms) is Heartlines. I can’t get enough of the percussion (very Friendly Fire-esque don't you think?) I feel sorry for my flat mate Lauren who lives beneath me. She’s had to listen to me dancing around the room for the past week due to this album.

The official video of No Light, No Light was released yesterday and it's brilliant. Enjoy X

early nights

I love this time of year. There's something extremely romantic about it; the dark early nights, the cold wind and the chance to wrap up warm in jumpers, scarfs and woolly-bobbled hats. Not to mention the decline in candy sticky colours and the rebirth of things plum, burgundy, purple, navy, grey, cream, animal prints and black black black.
I'm such a fan of velvet and all the many textures that are creeping in with the cold

Even though it's cold don't say goodbye to the shorts.
Love these shorts from Topshop.

Aubin & Wills jumper (can't beat a cable-knit)

I will one day own these!!! Stumbled across these beautiful Chelsea boots by Church's in yesterday's Sunday Times Style magazine and fell in love straight away. Such a great twist on a classic boot.
